BAIKONUR COSMODROME, Kazakhstan - (BUSINESS WIRE) - International Launch Services (ILS), a leading mission and launch services provider for the global commercial satellite industry, successfully carried the DIRECTV 12 satellite into orbit today for DIRECTV of El Segundo, California, on an ILS Proton. This was the seventh and final commercial launch of 2009 for ILS and the 56^th ILS Proton launch overall. ILS Proton launched the DIRECTV 10 satellite just two years ago, demonstrating the enhanced Proton capability which became the standard configuration for future missions.

The ILS Proton Breeze M launched from Pad 39 at the cosmodrome at 6:22 a.m. today local time (7:22 p.m. EDT, 00:22 GMT). After a 9 hour 10 minute mission, the Breeze M successfully released the DIRECTV 12 satellite, weighing over 5.9 metric tons, into geostationary transfer orbit. This was the 351^st launch for the Proton, following the landmark 350^th Proton launched just two weeks earlier on 14 December. The Proton Breeze M vehicle is developed and built by Khrunichev Research and Production Space Center of Moscow, one of the pillars of the Russian space industry.

The DIRECTV 12 satellite was built on the Boeing 702 platform by Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems and will serve to expand DIRECTV's HD capacity by 50 percent with over 200 national channels and 1,500 local HD and digital channels and more advanced services for its 18 million customers nationwide. The satellite will receive and transmit programming throughout the United States with two Ka-band reflectors, each measuring 2.8 meters in diameter and nine other Ka-band reflectors.

ILS has exclusive rights to market the Proton, Russia's premier heavy-lift vehicle, to commercial satellite operators worldwide. ILS is a U.S. company located in Reston, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. The majority owner is Khrunichev Space Center, one of the cornerstones of the Russian space industry and manufacturer of the Proton system. Since its maiden flight in 1965, Proton has launched over 350 times.

Un lanceur russe Proton-M avec le satellite de télécommunications américain Echostar-14 sera tiré depuis le cosmodrome de Baïkonour, au Kazakhstan, le 20 mars prochain, à 18h27 GMT, a annoncé mardi l'Agence fédérale spatiale russe (Roskosmos).
A l'heure actuelle, le satellite et le lanceur passent des tests dans un atelier de montage de Baïkonour. Le propulseur Briz-M sera prochainement transféré sur une station service du cosmodrome où ses réservoirs seront remplis de carburant. Les spécialistes du Centre spatial Youzhny préparent le pas de tir N°200 au lancement, selon un communiqué de Roskosmos.
Conçu par Space Systems/Loral, le satellite Echostar-14 a un poids de 6.379 kg et est doté de 103 transpondeurs en bande Ku. Sa durée de vie est de 15 ans.
Il sera mis en orbite aux termes d'un contrat signé par l'américain EchoStar et la société russo-américaine International Launch Services (ILS) qui commercialise les lanceurs Protons et Angara. ILS est fondée par la compagnie Space Transport Inc. (États-Unis) et le Centre de production et de recherche spatiale russe Khrounitchev, concepteur des Proton et Angara et du booster Briz-M.

Espace: un Proton met sur orbite un satellite américain

Moscou 21 mars : Un Proton-M qui a décollé samedi depuis le site de Baïkonour, au Kazakhstan, a mis sur orbite le satellite de télécom américain Echostar-14, a annoncé dimanche l'agence spatiale russe Roskosmos.

"Un lanceur Proton-M doté d'un booster d'accélération Briz-M a mis sur orbite à 02h36 GMT l'appareil spatial américain Echostar-14", a précisé un porte-parole de l'agence.

Selon lui, le départ et le vol du porte-satellite, ainsi que la séparation de l'appareil se sont déroulés comme prévu.

Le contrat de lancement avait été conclu entre la coentreprise russo-américaine International Launch Services Inc. et le groupe de télédiffusion américaine Echostar.

Arabsat-5B: le lanceur russe Proton-M met en orbite un satellite arabe

Tiré depuis le cosmodrome de Baïkonour le 3 juin à 22h00 GMT le lanceur russe Proton-M a mis en orbite le satellite arabe de télécommunications Arabsat-5B (BADR-5), a annoncé vendredi à RIA Novosti un représentant de l'agence spatiale russe Roskosmos.
"L'engin spatial étranger s'est détaché du booster russe Briz-M et a été placé sous le contrôle du client", a indiqué l'interlocuteur de l'agence.
La mise en orbite de BADR-5 à l'aide du lanceur russe est conforme au contra conclu par l'opérateur de satellite international ARABSAT et par International Launch Services (ILS), groupe, dont le bloc de contrôle est détenu par le Centre russe de production et de recherche spatiale Khrounitchev, concepteur de Proton et du booster Briz-M.
Le tir de l'engin spatial Arabsat-5B a été le 6e du lanceur Proton en 2010 et le 357e dans l'histoire des vols.
Badr-5 est un nouvel engin spatial de télécommunications conçu par le groupe EADS Astrium sur la demande d'ARABSAT. Il sera placé en orbite géostationnaire à 26° Est, près de Badr-4 et Badr-6, lancés en 2006 et 2008 respectivement.
Le nouveau satellite permettra à ARABSAT d'offrir à ses clients, pays proche-orientaux et nord-africains, des services d'une qualité sans précédent. Par rapport à ses prédécesseurs, Badr-5 possède des capacités supplémentaires, il permettra d'élargir la diffusion de la télévision haute définition et de développer les services interactifs contemporains.
