La Saudia devrait commander des 787 et aurait peut-être déjà acheté de nouveaux 777-300ER. Oh, quelle surprise :

Saudi Arabian Airlines insists it is still intending to take the Boeing 787 as part of its fleet-modernisation programme, even though it has recently indicated a planned acquisition of Boeing 777-300ERs.The airline signalled two years ago that it would take 12 787s, fitted with General Electric GEnx powerplants through a mix of lease and purchase agreements.
But Boeing's order backlog does not feature Saudi Arabian as a customer for the type, and Saudi Arabian states on its Internet site that its fleet modernisation will include 12 777-300ERs.
These aircraft, says the carrier, will be introduced towards the end of 2011.
The modernised fleet list does not mention the 787.
But speaking to ATI at the Arab Air Carriers Organization conference in Cairo last week, Saudi Arabian Airlines chief Khalid Al-Molhem said the Jeddah-based flag-carrier was "still committed" to the 787.
The relationship, if any, between the two batches of widebody aircraft has not been disclosed.
Boeing's backlog figures show an order for 12 777-300ERs dated 13 April this year, attributed to an unidentified customer.

Les paris sont ouverts....Saudia to join global alliance
JEDDAH: Saudi Arabian Airlines has reached advanced stages in its negotiations to join one of the three major international airline alliances as part of its efforts to strengthen its position on the world stage, its Director General Khaled Al-Molhem said Wednesday.
“The final arrangements for joining the alliance will be completed within a short period,” the director general said. “We have received positive signals from member airlines thanks to Saudia’s international reputation and its strategic geographic position.”
Al-Molhem said the move was aimed at achieving qualitative improvement in Saudia services and ensuring its presence all over the world. “It will also help Saudia make use of the networks of member airlines and strengthen its competitive position,” he said.
Saudia has been holding talks with three major alliances such as Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam, which account for about 80 percent of global air traffic. Saudia’s membership in these alliances will help the carrier provide international connections to its passengers through participating airlines.
“In order to get membership in these alliances, an airline company should fulfill certain conditions and criteria and improve its service performance,” Al-Molhem said.
He spoke about Saudia’s strategic plan to intensify its presence in various parts of the world throughout the week by operating international flights from its main airports in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.
He said the purchase of 82 modern aircraft would strengthen the airline’s position to join the alliances. The national flag carrier has signed deals to buy 35 Airbus 320s, 15 Airbus 321s, eight Airbus 330s, 12 Boeing 777-300s and 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Al-Molhem underlined Saudia’s efforts to modernize its technical infrastructure. “We have also developed our operation, marketing and finance systems keeping pace with the latest developments in the industry.”
Star Alliance is the world's first and largest airline alliance, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany. Founded in 1997, it has 28 member airlines. The alliance currently has more than 21,200 daily departures to 1,172 airports in 181 countries with an annual passenger number of 623.5 million.
Based in Vancouver, Oneworld airlines operate to 819 destinations in 142 countries. It operates over 8,700 daily flights, carrying 307 million passengers on a combined fleet of over 2,300 aircraft.
SkyTeam consists of 13 carriers from four continents. It operates over 12,500 flights with a combined fleet of 3,400 aircraft (including associate carriers). Furthermore, the alliance has 420 lounges worldwide to serve its 385 million annual passengers

Saudi Arabian Airlines Joins SkyTeam
Jeddah, 10 January 2011 – Saudi Arabian Airlines, the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, today signed an agreement to join SkyTeam in 2012. The airline will be SkyTeam’s first member from the Middle East, adding 35 new destinations to the alliance network.
Saudi Arabian Airlines complements the SkyTeam network by offering customers access to destinations across the Middle East not currently served by SkyTeam members. Through Saudi Arabia’s major hubs of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, travelers can connect to new destinations on the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian subcontinent and Northern Africa. Examples are Alexandria, Aden, Colombo and Islamabad.
SkyTeam members will have access to new potential customers from the region as Saudi Arabian Airlines offers direct flights to Europe, Asia, Africa and the USA. Customers can transfer to SkyTeam partner flights via hubs such as Paris, Rome, Nairobi and New York. SkyTeam partner China Southern also offers regular connections to Asia from Jeddah.
Turnaround program to improve the product offering
Saudi Arabian Airlines is fully focused on its four-year turnaround program to be completed by 2013. Key elements of this plan include modernization of its infrastructure, restructuring of its domestic and international network and implementing its fleet modernization plan through the purchase of the most advanced aircraft.
Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines, Mr. Khalid Al-Molhem, remarks that joining SkyTeam will add value to the carrier’s services: “The SkyTeam network provides our customers with excellent connections to most parts of the world.” He added: “Through the exchange of services and knowledge between all member airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines can achieve qualitative improvements, made available to our customers. These include airport services, ground services and First Class and Business Class passenger lounges.”
Leo van Wijk, Chairman of SkyTeam, said: “Saudi Arabian Airlines is a significant player in the Middle East and covers a considerable part of the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. Its membership in SkyTeam will enable us to compete more efficiently within the region.”
Marie-Joseph Malé, Managing Director of SkyTeam, added: “Announcing our first new member in 2011 clearly illustrates the continuing global expansion that we accelerated last year. In 2010 China Eastern and its daughter company Shanghai Airlines, China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia and Aerolíneas Argentinas all confirmed their future membership in SkyTeam. Adding Saudi Arabian Airlines will definitely complement our network offer to our customers.”

Saudi Arabian Airlines orders more Airbus A330-300s
Saudi Arabian Airlines, Saudi Arabia’s national airline, has placed a firm order for four additional A330-300 aircraft in addition to the eight ordered in July 2008, taking the total order for the type to 12.
Saudi Arabian Airlines placed its first order with Airbus in over 30 years in 2007 for 22 A320 Family aircraft and later placed an order for eight A330s. In 2009, Saudia upsized by converting 15 of the A320 orders into the larger A321. Airbus has so far delivered 17 aircraft (five A320s, four A321s and all eight A330s) from the order for 30 before today.

Oui ! C'est la commande des avions A330 qui avait été annoncée antérieurement , ... non pas celle des moteurs. Saudi Arabian Orders Eight 777-300ERs
Saudi Arabian Airlines has been identified as the buyer of eight Boeing 777-300ERs, with a list-price value of $2.4 billion, that were previously carried on Boeing’s “unidentified customer” list.
The announcement came Jan. 23 as the airline accepted delivery of its first two 777-300ERs in a ceremony in Everett, Wash. They are part of a 12-airplane order placed in April 2010.
Saudi placed its first 777 order in June 1995 when it bought 23 777-200ERs, all of which have been delivered.
